A few days ago, I came to a startling realization. Not everyone knows who the Goonies are.

(Seriously people??? How can you never have seen The Goonies??  It’s only like, THEE BEST MOVIE EVER).

Which is why, when I was dreaming up a title for today’s post, it occurred to me that perhaps not everyone knows who the Red Hot Chili Peppers are.  A very sad situation indeed.

So do me a favor, if you are unfamiliar with the Goonies or the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Google them.  Only then may you return to this website.

(Brief Intermission.)

OK.  Now that I have all the cool people’s attention, let’s continue.

Unfortunately this post is not about the Goonies or the Red Hot Chili Peppers.  Perhaps I will write about them in the future, but they are not what I’m writing about today.  Go ahead, send me your hate mail (I will forward it to Santa on your behalf.  Enjoy your coal).

Today I’ve decided to write about GIVING.  You know, like the song“GIVE IT AWAY”?  Thank you for nodding your head in agreement so that I don’t feel geriatric.

Anyhoo, this morning I realized that there’s something very special about giving.  What I mean by that is that giving feels really GOOD.

This realization came as a bit of a surprise.  One would think that I would already be pondering the joy of giving, since it is Christmastime and all, but I honestly haven’t given it much thought.  I assume this is because giving at Christmastime is somewhat obligatory.  It doesn’t always come from the heart.  You buy me something because I’m going to buy you something.  Ho Ho Ho.  Happy New Year. The end.

But fortunately there’s another kind of giving.  This kind of giving DOES come from the heart.  It’s the result of being so excited, happy and joyful about life that you just have to GIVE SOMETHING AWAY, and you have to do it NOW.  This kind of giving is spontaneous and free.  Kinda like Anthony Kiedis*.

*if you don’t know who Anthony Kiedis is, it may be time for me to fly south for the winter and eat dinner at 4:30pm.

I’ve been feeling this effervescent, joyful feeling since last night at about 6:07pm.  All of a sudden, I was extremely happy.  And accompanying the happiness was an urge to give something away.  To everyone.  Simply because, I LOVE life (cheesy, but true).

So I thought to myself, “what could I give EVERYONE I know?”  At first I was stumped.

I decided against actual presents, as visions of the line at the post office danced in my head.

It’d be fun to make y’all some kale chips, but unfortunately not everyone has my taste in food.

“I know!”, I shouted to myself.  “My book!  I can give everyone a copy of my book!”

At first I thought that this was a pretty dumb idea.  After all, selling books is one of the main ways I generate income from this site.

But then I noticed how the thought of giving away my book FELT.  It felt like my insides had turned into a glittery snow globe.  My skin was all tingly.  The thought of giving away my book only intensified my happiness.  So I decided to go for it.

I hereby announce that my book is FREE.  All you have to do is sign up for my newsletter (enter your email in the form at the top right), and you’ll receive a copy, along with instant access to 12 of my awesome-est videos.

If you’re already on my newsletter list, I’ll be sending out download instructions shortly, so no hissy fits please.

If you like the book and want to leave a donation, that would be wonderful.  But that’s totally up to you.

What I DO want you to do is go give something away.  Now.

Because giving feels really great.

Kinda like finding a pirate ship full of gold.

Or holding hands with Anthony Kiedis.

Or both. :)
