Most of you know by now of my intense love affair with Anusara yoga, which I practice on a daily basis. I’ve received quite a few emails lately from fellow yogis, curious to know what my favorite mat is.
I’ve had a few different yoga mats over the years but my very favorite yoga mats are made by prAna. The mat I use right now is a prAna Natural Yoga Mat in aegean blue. One of the reasons I chose this yoga mat is that it’s very eco-friendly – it’s made from 100% natural rubber and is completely biodegradable.
Another thing I love about prAna yoga mats is that they’re very sticky on BOTH sides so they don’t scrunch up on the floor in poses where your feet are spread wide apart (such as warrior). In addition, the prAna Natural Yoga Mat is extra-long (78”) which is great for tall yogis like me.
The next mat I plan to buy is the prAna Revolution mat, which was made specifically for Anusara yoga. PrAna collaborated with Anusara founder John Friend to create this very unique mat.
The prAna Revolution (“Rev”) yoga mat is very similar to my Natural yoga mat (natural rubber, biodegradable, stable surface) except it is 30” wide. It’s also extra-long (78”) compared to other yoga mats so there’s plenty of room to stretch and expand!
The only downside to prAna yoga mats is that they’re heavy (the Natural Yoga Mat weighs 8lbs and the Rev yoga mat weighs 9lbs), so I wouldn’t recommend them for traveling. A plus side to the extra weight though is that my arm muscles have definitely increased in size since I bought my prAna mat!
One more suggestion I have for prAna is to make the Rev yoga mat in different colors. Right now they only come in orange and green but I know me and my yogi friends would love to see them in more colors.
If you’re going to buy the Revolution yoga mat I highly recommend you also buy the prAna Revolution yoga mat holder. If you don’t, you’re going to have a hell of time finding a bag that will fit a 30” wide mat! The Revolution yoga mat bag comes in chocolate brown and my favorite, GORGEOUS shade of fuchsia (Santa, can you take a hint??).
If you want to see me in action on prAna yoga mats, please watch my vlog on Anusara yoga. You can also visit the prAna website for more details on their mats and awesome line of clothing.
Just an FYI – Prana has not sent me any free stuff or endorsed this article, at least not at the time of this blog post (I will keep my fingers crossed though). Namaste!
